Obituary for Roger Lynn Marvin
Roger Lynn Marvin was born in Kokomo, Indiana. He also lived in Texas, California, Kansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, and was most recently residing in Arkansas; for the second time. He attended high school in Arkansas where he was part of the ROTC and trained as a medic.
While at school, he heard an announcement that there was a new student, Beulah Lakey, and he told his best friend that he would marry her (before ever meeting her). They married on August 4, 1957, and raised three daughters.
Though he was highly intelligent, he was a very humble and giving man. Since he was a very hard worker and was able to learn how to design, repair, and draft just about anything, he had a variety of jobs. After working 30 years for Beechcraft, as an Avionics Senior Design Engineer with many design patents, he spent his time woodworking, including creating Christmas gifts for underprivileged children along with his friends in a local wood turning club.
Roger learned carpentry, auto mechanics, and many more useful skills from his father, Floyd Marvin. His mother, Florence Metzger, encouraged him to sing and learn to play a musical instrument. His choice was a trumpet. He sang and played the trumpet in church, in competitions, and other venues. Roger even sang bass for a Barbershop Quartet. He was an independent pilot, photographer, and gardener.
Roger spent time with the American Red Cross, sometimes alongside Beulah, helping those who had been devastated by fire, tornado, flooding, and other natural disasters all across the country. Due to work and also enjoying travel, he visited most states in the United States and also numerous other countries. He and Beulah toured Europe on their Honda Gold Wing with nineteen other motorcycles (many friends from the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club they belonged to). He also expressed his creativity with Beulah performing in plays with “Senior Acts” while living in Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah, on January 20, 2025, and their oldest daughter, Kathryn (Kathy) Mayhue, on September 20, 2017.
Survivors include daughters, Bonita (Bonnie) Reese and Laura Nave; four grandchildren, Jonathon Mayhue, Christopher Peters, Jeremy Peters, and Mia Nave; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson due in June; and sister, Barbara (Marvin) Beckner.
A joint celebration of life for Roger and Beulah will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Arkansas, beginning at 2:00 PM.
