August, 2017 Meeting
The May, 2017 meeting was called to order by Ben Johnson, the club president. Following the
Pledge of Allegiance we introduced our Guests.

We continue to share display space in the Rogers Museum Annex with the area woodcarvers.

Volunteers are needed for 4th Saturday demonstrations, help with the A-V setup at meetings
and someone to oversee the club's library.

Turned tops are being collected and will be donated to a local charity when we have enough. As
an incentive, the member bringing in the most tops each month will receive a $10 gift certificate
from Craft Supply.

Upcoming woodturning symposiums:
Rocky Mountain Symposium – 9/15-17 in Loveland CO

Our demonstrator for this month was Mick Hutchinson. Mick demonstrated turning a bell with a
clapper. Mick explained the need for using a dense grained, hardwood in order to achieve the
best ring tone. He also explained how to turn the bell and clapper so that the clapper could be
installed with a minimum of effort. The demo was entertaining, informative, and timely, with the
holiday season approaching.

Bring a Bring-Back item for our raffle.
Bring a Show-N-Tell item.
Bring a guest.

We still are soliciting ideas and volunteers for activities at our 4th Saturday gatherings. We have
quite a few new members, so it is appropriate and timely to include demos/activities that are a
repeat of sessions of some of past years activities! Examples could be: ”Tool Sharpening
techniques”, Hollowing Jigs and Fixtures”, “Off Center Turning Chucks/Techniques”, etc.
Please contact Ben with any ideas/suggestions, and especially with an offer to demo/teach a
subject!

See you at 4th Saturday.
