May, 2017 Meeting
The May, 2017 meeting was called to order by Kip Powers, the club vice president. Following the
Pledge of Allegiance we introduced our Guests.
We continue to share display space in the Rogers Museum Annex with the area woodcarvers.
President's Challenge for June - Off-center turning of any kind
Volunteers are needed for 4th Saturday demonstrations, help with the A-V setup at meetings
and someone to oversee the club's library.
Turned tops are being collected and will be donated to a local charity when we have enough. As
an incentive, the member bringing in the most tops each month will receive a $10 gift certificate
from Craft Supply.

AAW International Symposium – 6/22-25 in Kansas City MO
SWAT – August 25-27 in Waco TX
Rocky Mountain Symposium – 9/15-17 in Loveland CO
The theme for our May meeting was to have the members turn a segmented piece...one that had
at least two pieces of wood joined together. Examples are shown below in the "Show & Tell"
Our demonstrator for this month was Ken Miller. Ken demonstrated turning a flower pot using
wood segments glued together such that the end grain was shown in contrasting patterns. Ken
also demonstrated turning a round ball. Both demos were entertaining and informative.

Bring a Show-N-Tell item.
Bring a guest.
We still are soliciting ideas and volunteers for activities at our 4th Saturday gatherings. We have
quite a few new members, so it is appropriate and timely to include demos/activities that are a
repeat of sessions of some of past years activities! Examples could be: ”Tool Sharpening
techniques”, Hollowing Jigs and Fixtures”, “Off Center Turning Chucks/Techniques”, etc.
