May, 2017 Meeting
The May, 2017 meeting was called to order by Kip Powers, the club vice president. Following the
Pledge of Allegiance we introduced our Guests
.

We continue to share display space in the Rogers Museum Annex with the area woodcarvers.

President's Challenge for
June - Off-center turning of any kind

Volunteers are needed for 4th Saturday demonstrations, help with the A-V setup at meetings
and someone to oversee the club's library.

Turned tops are being collected and will be donated to a local charity when we have enough. As
an incentive, the member bringing in the most tops each month will receive a $10 gift certificate
from Craft Supply.

Upcoming woodturning symposiums:
AAW International Symposium – 6/22-25 in Kansas City MO
SWAT – August 25-27 in Waco TX
Rocky Mountain Symposium – 9/15-17 in Loveland CO

The theme for our
May meeting was to have the members turn a segmented piece...one that had
at least two pieces of wood joined together. Examples are shown below in the "Show & Tell"
section.

Our demonstrator for this month was Ken Miller. Ken demonstrated turning a flower pot using
wood segments glued together such that the end grain was shown in contrasting patterns. Ken
also demonstrated turning a round ball. Both demos were entertaining and informative.

Bring a Bring-Back item for our raffle.
Bring a Show-N-Tell item.
Bring a guest.

We still are soliciting ideas and volunteers for activities at our 4th Saturday gatherings. We have
quite a few new members, so it is appropriate and timely to include demos/activities that are a
repeat of sessions of some of past years activities! Examples could be: ”Tool Sharpening
techniques”, Hollowing Jigs and Fixtures”, “Off Center Turning Chucks/Techniques”, etc.
Please contact Ben with any ideas/suggestions, and especially with an offer to demo/teach a
subject!

See you at 4th Saturday.
