March, 2014 Meeting
Our regular 2nd Saturday meeting was held at the Jones Center in Springdale.

Kip Powers provided a demonstration of patination, or gilding, of metal foils on a wood
turning. He used three different types of foil: silver, copper, and "dutch metal", a foil that is
gold in color. Two different types of chemical solutions were used on the different foils to
obtain different patinas. A video of his demonstration will be uploaded to our "Stateline
Woodturners" you tube site.

The membership voted to donate $100 to the AAW educational fund in remembrance of
Mark Ost.

Short "Hints & Kinks" presentations were made by Les Brandt and Jim King. Les described
how to make inexpensive, custom wood burning tips for use in embellishment, and Jim
suggested using an MT style drill bit chuck, with a small sanding pad, mounted in the lathe
headstock, for finishing the foot of a turning.

Ty King was selected as the winner of the monthly "Advanced" turner award, and Gary
Olerud received the "Novice" award.

The location for our "4th Saturday" meeting has not yet been decided. Members will be
notified by E-Mail of the location prior to the meeting.
