Stateline Woodturners
February, 2009 Meeting
Our February meeting was well attended, including several guests.

We had some interesting show and tell items (see the photos below), and a lively discussion on safety items,
mainly dealing with use of the table saw. There was quite a bit of discussion related to sawing narrow strips
in a safe manner that reduced the probability of a "kickback".

Kurt Bird provided a demonstration of turning a duplicate table leg. He demonstrated the use of three
different tools, a skew (the main turning tool), a roughing gouge, and a fingernail gouge. The skew provided
a very smooth finish....one that would require very little sanding prior to applying the finish materials.
Kurt
also demonstrated the use of a template to insure a close match between all legs of the table.

Mark Ost provided the piece for the $5 raffle. Thanks, again, Mark, for your support of our club!

Kurt reminded us of the advantages of joining the AAW. We really should support this national organization.
We have applied for a grant from the AAW EOC fund to help our club purchase a new lathe. We should find
out in April if we have been selected as one of the recipients for a grant.

Kip Powers will provide the program for next month.

See you all at 4th Saturday!!
