Stateline Woodturners
January, 2012 Meeting
We started out the new year of 2012 with Mark Ost chairing our meeting. Our club President, Doug
Hyde, is recovering from surgery, but will be able to attend our January 4th Saturday get-together at
Mark Ost's shop.
We all wish him a speedy recovery.

Bob Schmitz provided the demonstration for our January, 2012 meeting. He demonstrated turning a
cane, like the ones that he and other club members turned for the local VA hospital. The local
woodcarvers club provided the carved eagle's heads for the canes. This combined effort resulted in the
group providing more that 30 canes to the staff of the VA hospital in Fayetteville.

Bob demonstrated the use of a steady-rest, a roughing gouge, and the skew to fashion a cane from a
30" long piece of stock. He also brought an example of the carved eagle's head provided by the local
woodcarver's organization.

Pictures of the "Show & Tell" activities are shown below, courtesy of Joy Hapeman. Pictures of
individual members works are also shown on their respective gallery pages.
